Ready to Bloom

When I’m not in Asana, I try to be outside as much as possible. I wouldn’t describe myself as an “outdoorsy person,” but having grown up in New England and now living in Los Angeles, the ability to exist outdoors in the early spring without donning a parka is a true privilege.

This year I learned about the wonders of winter gardening. Instead of only being able to tend my garden for three months out of the year, I can now have fresh veggies growing all year long. While my peas and lettuce are flourishing in the cooler (50 degrees, don’t hate me) season, I plant my seeds for spring and summer. As I rip up the plants that have finished their duties, new ones are coming up to replace them.

There is something both exciting and exhausting about gardening all year long. I get to jump with glee when my seeds finally sprout, but I’m finding that I do miss that forced period of rest that comes with life in a colder climate. In the end, the choice is my own. I can plant more seeds, or I can rest and enjoy what’s growing in the moment.

What season are you in? Have you been planting seeds or are you opting for rest?
