In September 2026, Asana announced their shift to AWM – Agentic Work Management. More features, more automation, more usage currencies to keep track of. I’ve got your TLDR right here.

What is AWM

Asana AWM – Agentic Work Management – is the new OS for human-agent collaboration. Rather than everyone using their own Claude or ChatGPT models in a silo, AWM gives everyone in your workspace access to the same AI tools right where their work is already happening.

Meet the AWM features

Asana Dash

Dash is your new AI Chat alternative. Asana is positioning Dash as your AI Chief of Staff, directly embedded in your workspace.

Asana AI Teammates

AI Teammates are prebuilt agents that exist within your Asana workspace. They’ve been live for Enterprise users for about a year, but the big news is that they are now available on all paid tiers.

Asana has built 30+ prebuilt AI Teammates, each with pre-defined skills that allow you to immediately begin assign work. OR, you can build your own teammate from scratch to take on exactly what you need for your unique requirements.

Asana AI Studio

Now, AI Studio is a little different. It exists within Asana’s automation builder and let’s you level up your workflows beyond what a standard rule can do. You can perform AI conditional checks, assign work to an AI Teammate, or have AI Studio step in to perform certain actions.

AI Consumption Models

For those who have been using AI tools for awhile now, especially AI Studio, this one is a bit of a mindset shift. Rather than pooling from your credits, Asana Dash and AI Teammates use a different currency called Requests.

What counts as a "Request”

Asana defines one Request as one successful unit of work.

Things like:

  • An AI Teammate completes a task that you assigned

  • Dash analyzes your project and delegates work

  • AI Teammate analyzes context and produces content

  • Dash runs a capacity assessment on your client portfolio

But don’t worry, you won’t be charged in instances where the AI Teammate times out or fails to complete a request due to lack of information. Other things like non-executing actions and standard administrative tasks are not included – like marking a task complete, moving a due date, or recalling your upcoming tasks.

My own testing

To try and find the line between “successful unit of work,” and “non-executing actions,” I tested a couple of things in my personal workspace. If your concerned about your consumption, take it slow and monitor your daily credit usage. This will also help you better advise your team on what they can reliably use these features for without racking up requests.

  • In my first test, I asked Dash to review my Project Pipeline and provide a proposal of items that I should follow up on this week. This counted as a request.

  • Next, I asked it to mark one of the tasks complete. This did not count as a request.

  • Lastly, I had Dash scan my workspace for all tasks assigned to a particular user. This did not count as a request. As a follow up, I asked it to remove the due dates from the tasks it recalled, this did not count as a request either.

How many “Requests” do I have?

Every workspace (regardless of tier) comes with 5 Requests per user, per month. These requests are pooled, meaning if you have 5 seats your workspace has 25 requests per month. However, you may decide that each person should have a cap on their one usage, or nominate a power user who manages all 25 requests.

Additional request packages are available as well. Shoot me an email if you have questions about those, I’m here to help!

Asana AI Studio Credits

Each paid Asana tier comes with a preset volume of AI Studio credits. Additional credits are available as add-ons with AI Studio Pro and AI Studio Plus, giving you access to more credits without fully upgrading your tier.

Tracking Consumption

You can track your company’s AI usage and consumption through the Admin Console under Asana AI (alternatively, you can get here through Billing).

Because Dash and Asana AI Studio can trigger requests to AI Teammates, it’s important to understand how your AI workflows are speaking to one another to accurately forecast and monitor usage.
