More and more people are interested in trying out all that Asana AI Studio has to offer. But how do you get started? You don’t know what you don’t know, and with a limited amount of credits it can be intimidating to jump in.

Each month, I host Asana Office Hours, and this is one of the most common questions I get.

Start Simple

You don’t even need to have a workflow in mind before you start playing. Start with a dummy throwaway project where you aren’t worried about messing anything up for other people in your Workspace.

Use a template

Choose one of Asana’s featured Asana AI Studio rules and take it for a test drive. I recommend the following:

  • Check for missing information

  • Check for duplicates

  • Translate comments

  • Automatically change due dates

Add one of these to your project and run a few tests. I recommend testing one AI Studio rule at a time. The following steps will show you how to check output and credit consumption. I recommend doing this at each stage before trialing the others.

Check Output

Once you have run your tests, check the output.

Open your test task and scroll down. Under All Activity you will see where the AI Studio Rule ran. Click Show Reasoning to read through the rationale your AI rule used to make it’s decision.

What did the AI get right? What needs tweaking? Do you need a better sample task for it to work with?

Test again. And again.

Check Credit Usage

AI Studio rules consume AI Studio Credits. Tiers Starter and above all come with a monthly allotment of these credits that refresh every month. Once you have performed your tests, go back into the rule and view Activity.

You will see exactly how many credits were used each time the rule was triggered. You can use this information to get a sense for how many credits you will need to run this rule consistently.

If you no longer want this rule to run, be sure to PAUSE the rule to prevent future consumption.

Identify Your Workflow Gaps

Now that you know how to build an AI Studio rule, how to check its consumption, and what to do when it goes off the rails, you’re ready to start putting your skills to use. Use the above tips to test, measure, and iterate your rules.

Once you’ve identified a strong AI Studio workflow, I recommend forecasting your credit usage to ensure you have enough AI Studio credits. Then, continue to monitor your usage through the Billing Console and adjust your forecast as needed. Additional credits can be purchased through AI Studio Pro & Plus plans.
